This is our life. Taylor is 8, Quinten is 5 and Spencer is 4. We are so blessed to have 3 great kids. I thank God for them everyday.

New Experiment
2 weeks ago I bought some very green bananas thinking in a few days we would be able to enjoy them. They're still green. So now we are going to see how long they will last. Will they rippen or go bad first? Who knows. But now we are curious.

My guess will be they ripen before going bad. The ripening of the fruit is the conversion of starch to sugar, as well as the hydrolysation of pectin, therefore making the banana softer. It is the breakdown of the sugars which is responsible for the deterioration of the banana.
actually i had the same thing going on with a banana i bought... and even with professor devin's thrilling explanation this banana went from green to a greenish brown to a definite brown
good point but it skipped the "HEY IM TASTY AND READY TO EAT" yellow stage.. oh and i like my bananas to not instantly melt in my mouth (i realize how bad that sounds)

try putting some tomatoes right next to them. they may ripen faster.
We've been buying other bananas so we aren't in a hurry for these ones to rippen. Just curious now.

Brown is still ripened. Just because it's brown does not mean that it is rotten.
